1. About this Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Macrame, LLC ("Macrame," "we," "us," or "our"), a Delaware limited liability company, collects through Lingovea, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. Lingovea is the umbrella brand for a family of specialized AI English-speaking tools.

This Policy is incorporated into our Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms.

2. Scope & the Lingovea ecosystem

This Policy covers two things:

  • The Lingovea website at lingovea.com — the marketing pages and the Learning Center (/learn and /words).
  • The Lingovea apps that do not have their own website — currently WordEdge and SpeechEdge, and any future ecosystem app we ship without a dedicated site (collectively, the "Apps"). For those Apps, this is the canonical privacy policy.
ShadowEdge is governed by its own documents. ShadowEdge is the one ecosystem product with its own website and its own legal terms. If you use ShadowEdge, the privacy policy at https://shadowedge.app/legal/privacy governs that product — not this one. This Policy links to it where relevant.

Where a product-specific detail differs from what is written here, the product's own document controls for that product. Everything in this Policy applies to the Lingovea website in all cases.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Website — visitors to lingovea.com

The Lingovea website is a static marketing and educational site. It has no accounts and no login. When you visit, we collect:

  • Consent & preference cookies. A first-party cookie (lv_consent) records whether you accepted or declined analytics, and a first-party visitor identifier (lv_vid) lets us de-duplicate a returning visitor's consent choice. These are set regardless of your analytics choice because they store that choice itself.
  • Analytics — only if you accept. If you accept analytics in the consent banner, we load Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, and Microsoft Clarity to measure aggregate, non-identifying usage of the site (pages viewed, referrer, approximate region, device type). Nothing analytics-related loads until you accept — see §6.
  • Server & edge logs. Our hosting and CDN provider records standard request metadata (IP address, user-agent, timestamp, requested URL) to serve the site, defend against abuse, and diagnose errors.

The website does not use third-party advertising cookies and does not build advertising profiles.

3.2 Apps — account data

When you create an account in a Lingovea app, we collect the email address you sign up with, an account identifier we generate, and — if you sign in via Apple, Google, or another identity provider — the subject identifier and basic profile fields the provider returns. We do not store passwords for SSO accounts. For password-based accounts, we store a salted hash, never the password itself.

3.3 Apps — practice data

Lingovea apps are speaking-practice tools. When you practice, we store the material you are practicing (for example, words and decks in WordEdge, or scripts you generate in SpeechEdge), your recordings, your pronunciation scores (Accuracy, Fluency, Completeness, Prosody, and per-phoneme detail), and your practice history. Your recordings and scores are private to your account and are not used for any purpose other than providing the app to you.

3.4 Apps — device and usage telemetry

The Apps send telemetry events (for example: session started, scoring complete) tied to your account so we can operate the product, debug failures, and improve it. Telemetry includes app version and an opaque per-install device identifier; it does not include the audio of your recordings.

3.5 Apps — payment information

If you upgrade to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe, Inc. or, for in-app purchases, by the relevant mobile app store. Stripe collects and stores your card details directly; we receive only the customer ID, subscription state, and the last four digits / brand of the card for receipts and billing. We never see or store full card numbers, CVVs, or bank account numbers.

3.6 Support correspondence

If you contact support@lingovea.com, we keep the email and any attachments you send for as long as needed to resolve the issue and meet our recordkeeping obligations.

4. How we use your information

We use the information described in §3 to:

  • operate and secure the website and the Apps;
  • provide your account and customer support;
  • run pronunciation scoring and deliver your practice history;
  • bill you for paid plans and prevent fraud;
  • send transactional email tied to your account (security alerts, billing receipts, deletion confirmations);
  • measure aggregate usage so we can improve the products; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not use your recordings to train third-party machine-learning models, and we do not show you behavioral advertising.

5. Legal bases for processing (EEA / UK)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR:

  • Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to provide the Apps you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to keep our services secure, debug failures, prevent fraud, and improve the products. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we balance them against your privacy rights and you may object at any time.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for analytics cookies on the website and any other use that requires it. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — when we must keep records or respond to lawful requests.

6. Cookies & consent

The Lingovea website uses Google Consent Mode v2. On first load, all analytics and advertising signals default to denied, and no analytics scripts run. A consent banner then asks for your choice:

  • If you accept, we upgrade the consent signals and load Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity.
  • If you decline, no analytics scripts load, and only the strictly-necessary consent cookies (lv_consent, lv_vid) remain.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing the lv_consent cookie; we also re-prompt everyone when the policy version changes. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

7. Who we share information with

We share personal information only with the parties below and only for the purposes listed. Each sub-processor is bound by a written data processing agreement and may use your information only on our instructions.

Other recipients.

  • Legal compliance. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or other lawful request, or where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Macrame, our users, or others. Where the law allows, we will notify you of the request before responding.
  • Business transfers. If Macrame is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will notify you (and where required, seek your consent) before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We do not share personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics platforms beyond the sub-processors listed above.

8. International transfers

Macrame is established in the United States. When we transfer personal information from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to the United States or another country that has not been recognized as providing an adequate level of protection, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, supplemented as needed by additional safeguards.

9. How long we keep information

  • Website consent cookies — lv_consent and lv_vid persist until they expire or you clear them; we re-prompt on policy-version changes.
  • Website analytics — retained per Google Analytics' configured retention window; aggregate and non-identifying.
  • Account record + practice data (Apps) — kept while your account is active; deleted on request (see §10).
  • Encrypted backups — rotated on a regular cycle; deleted data persists in backups until that cycle completes.
  • Support correspondence — kept as long as needed to resolve the issue and meet recordkeeping obligations.
  • Server & edge logs — retained per our log lifecycle (typically 30 days for application logs, longer for security-relevant events).
  • Billing records — kept for the period required by tax and accounting law (typically seven years in the United States).

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights: access, export, correction, deletion, objection / restriction to processing based on our legitimate interests, withdrawal of consent, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority (EEA users with their member-state authority; UK users with the ICO).

In the Apps, most rights can be exercised directly from account settings (export and delete your account). For anything that cannot be served from the app, or for any website-related request, email support@lingovea.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law (one month under the GDPR, with a possible two-month extension for complex requests). We may need to verify your identity before acting.

10.1 U.S. state privacy rights

Residents of certain U.S. states have specific rights under their state privacy laws (CCPA/CPRA, VCDPA, CPA, CTDPA, UCPA, and others as enacted), generally including access, deletion, correction, opt-out of "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined in those laws.

10.2 Automated decision-making

We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you. Pronunciation scoring affects only the practice feedback shown to you.

11. Security

We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+ for all client traffic), encryption at rest for sensitive fields, least-privilege role-based access for staff, and audit logging for staff actions. No security measure is perfect; if we become aware of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

12. Children

Lingovea is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information to us, please contact support@lingovea.com and we will delete it. See Terms §2 for our minimum-age rules.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in-app, by email, or by a notice on the website, at least 30 days before the change takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision.
